Remembering my mum - Pearl Helen Wahn

It was 21 years ago today my mum passed away. I admired her energy and spirit. This was my mum in her bedroom window where she had her Singer sewing machine. Mom loved to sew and would sometimes sing at the top of her lungs in Ukranian. For dinner we might even have had cabbage rolls with lots of smatana on them??

She was a wonderful woman, and a great human being.

I miss ya ma...

Stephen Harper... The world is laughing at us, because of your actions. What an embarrassment! Just look at what US television thinks...

Canada wishes Obama well

Canada needs someone like Barack... desparately! It is my hope that the Canadian Liberals follow Obama's lead and elect an Obama clone to rescue our government from the clutches of Stephen Harper and his Bush-like cronies and policies. Yes we CANada!!

Harper emulates George Bush. Simple really. Has done so for many years.
Harper is secretive... just like Bush.
Harper twists the truth... just like Bush.
Harper lies like Bush (and McCain).
Harper followed Bush into war.
Canada used to be a nation of peace keepers... now we are targets of aggression.

This will have to do until Canada get's its own version of Obama.

Federal Canadian politics have grown old and stale. It needs an infusion of younger candidates with new, fresh ideas for today's world. Out with the old... In with the new... even if it includes members of my generation.

Follow the spirit of the Obama revolution happening before our eyes in the US. Canada desperately needs to find that very same magic.

Canada doesn't want or need Bush style politics!!

Our American cousins want enormous change... and fast. G-d knows they need it! Let's reach a hand out to our American cousins, and join them in their quest for dramatic changes to their "ce$$-pool", commonly known as Washington D.C.

We can smell the rot from here! We are nervous about our government too. We're starting to smell noxious odours eminating from Ottawa as well...

Think that a food product is Canadian because it says "Product of Canada" on it? Is ice cream made from Canadian milk products? You will be shocked to find out the real answers...

It says "Product of Canada" on the package, but the food is really from China. Or New Zealand. Or...

Eating local is hot this year. Restaurant menus across the country boast of fresh local meat and produce. Bestselling books encourage us to take up the "100-Mile Diet."

Almost everywhere, there's a growing sense that it would be smart to reduce our consumption of food that's traveled halfway around the world.

Partly this is about flavour, and the idea that less travel means fresher food that tastes better. Partly it's about safety: being sure that food from where we live is subject to Canadian standards and inspections. Partly it's about supporting farmers who live nearby. Partly it's about using less fuel for the sake of the planet. So there are plenty of reasons to look for the "Product of Canada" label in the grocery store.

But here's the thing. "Product of Canada" doesn't actually mean the food is from around here. All it means, legally speaking, is that at least 51% percent of its production costs were spent in Canada. As Wendy Mesley's report reveals, sometimes "Product of Canada" has been to three continents before it lands here.
